World Bank discussions with the Jamaica Fire Brigade

The World Bank is in discussion with the Jamaica Fire Brigade and out of these discussions, it is expected that the Brigade will see the construction of three (03) Fire Stations, Barnett Street in Montego Bay St. James, Port Maria in St. Mary and Yallahs in St. Thomas, in addition, the Brigade will also benefit from the acquisition four (4) new Pumpers, five (5) new Water Tankers, Breathing Apparatus, Bunker gears and along with other tools.

Brigade gets new fire units

The Jamaica Fire Brigade with funding provided by the Government of Jamaica through the Ministry of Local Government & Community Development had acquired three additional fire units at a cost One Hundred and Thirty Three Million Dollars ($133 million).

These units will be strategically dispatched at the Portmore, Stony Hill and May Pen Fire Station.

The Commissioner along with nine (9) other members representing a cross-section of the Jamaica Fire Brigade will receive this award. The remaining one hundred & twenty-two (122) members of the Brigade will receive their medals at a ceremony to be held in February 2013 by the organization.

Rededication Ceremony - Trench Town Fire Station

After a six month closure due to the discovery that ACM (Asbestos Containing Material) was used in the construction of the roof, the Trench Town Fire Station will finally be reopen at a Rededication Ceremony to be held on Wednesday December 19, 2012.

Rededication Ceremony - Santa Cruz Fire Station

The Santa Cruz Fire Station which has been closed for over four years has been refurbished to the tune of JA$14.7M and redidicated at a ceremony which took place on the Station ground today November 28, 2012. The Master of Ceremonies was Snr. D/Supt. Floyd McLean. The Ceremony started at approximately 2:30p.m. with a prayer from Superintendent Peyton Francis - Chaplain/Welfare Officer - Jamaica Fire Brigade followed by the welcome speech by Commissioner Laurie Williams.

This was then followed by an overview of the project by D/Supt. Andrew Russell - OIC Building Maintenance, there were greetings from His Worship, Councillor Everton Fisher - Mayor of Black River and Mr. Carl Thomas Deputy Chairman - Jamaica Fire Brigade Board who represented the Board Chairman. An address was made by the Hon. Colin Fagan, Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development followed by an Item from Sgt. Verona Ferguson and Ffr. Huntley Williams of the Westmoreland Division.

Rededication Ceremony - Santa Cruz Fire Station Cont'd

The Vote of Thanks was given by A/Comm. Dave McLaughlin - OIC Area IV and the building was finally rededicated by Rev. Jacob Powell of the Sharon Baptish Church - Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth. Also present at the ceremony was Her Worship the Mayor, Mrs. Branda Ramsay - Mayor of Manchester and JFB Board of Director, Mr. Kern Spencer, former MP and Costos Wilfred Nembhard, Costos - St. Elizabeth. The cutting of the ribonwas done by Minister Colin Fagan and Mayor Everton Fisher accompanied by Commissioner Laurie Williams.
