Brigade gets new fire units

The Jamaica Fire Brigade with funding provided by the Government of Jamaica through the Ministry of Local Government & Community Development had acquired three additional fire units at a cost One Hundred and Thirty Three Million Dollars ($133 million).

These units will be strategically dispatched at the Portmore, Stony Hill and May Pen Fire Station.

Laurie Williams JP Retired as Commissioner

Laurie Williams JP has retired from the Jamaica Fire Brigade effective June 12, 2014. On December 31, 2013, Mr. Williams went off on 112 days pre-retirement leave and Deputy Commissioner Errol Mowatt has been acting in said capacity since then.

Freeport Fire Station Upgrade

Since the Barnett Street Fire Station was demolished in 2006 to facilitate the construction of a modern state of the art building, the firefighters were relocated to a rented facility at Freeport which has been suffering from varying problems hence, On Wednesday August 28, 2013, this facility was upgraded to a tune of $4,700,000.00., $1,000,000.00 less than was budgeted.

One Hundred and thirty-two (132) members of the Fire Brigade who have met the criterion of twenty-five (25) years service will ultimately receive this award. The formal award ceremony will be held on Friday 14th December, 2012 at King's House to be hosted by Their Excellencies The Governor-General and The Most Hon. Lady Allen.

The Commissioner along with nine (9) other members representing a cross-section of the Jamaica Fire Brigade will receive this award. The remaining one hundred & twenty-two (122) members of the Brigade will receive their medals at a ceremony to be held in February 2013 by the organization.

Rededication Ceremony - Santa Cruz Fire Station

The Santa Cruz Fire Station which has been closed for over four years has been refurbished to the tune of JA$14.7M and redidicated at a ceremony which took place on the Station ground today November 28, 2012. The Master of Ceremonies was Snr. D/Supt. Floyd McLean. The Ceremony started at approximately 2:30p.m. with a prayer from Superintendent Peyton Francis - Chaplain/Welfare Officer - Jamaica Fire Brigade followed by the welcome speech by Commissioner Laurie Williams.

This was then followed by an overview of the project by D/Supt. Andrew Russell - OIC Building Maintenance, there were greetings from His Worship, Councillor Everton Fisher - Mayor of Black River and Mr. Carl Thomas Deputy Chairman - Jamaica Fire Brigade Board who represented the Board Chairman. An address was made by the Hon. Colin Fagan, Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government and Community Development followed by an Item from Sgt. Verona Ferguson and Ffr. Huntley Williams of the Westmoreland Division.

Rededication Ceremony - Santa Cruz Fire Station Cont'd

The Vote of Thanks was given by A/Comm. Dave McLaughlin - OIC Area IV and the building was finally rededicated by Rev. Jacob Powell of the Sharon Baptish Church - Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth. Also present at the ceremony was Her Worship the Mayor, Mrs. Branda Ramsay - Mayor of Manchester and JFB Board of Director, Mr. Kern Spencer, former MP and Costos Wilfred Nembhard, Costos - St. Elizabeth. The cutting of the ribonwas done by Minister Colin Fagan and Mayor Everton Fisher accompanied by Commissioner Laurie Williams.
