Commissioner Stewart Lloyd Beckford

6th Commissioner, Jamaica Fire Brigade
Stewart L Beckford assumed duty as the 6th Commissioner, Jamaica Fire Brigade on December 28, 2018 after most recently serving as the Acting Deputy Commissioner incharged of the Operations Branch. He has held multiple command and staff positions in eight sections/departments and special assignments throughout the last 29 years.
A son of the parish of St Ann, Commissioner Beckford is a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs-IAFC. He received Fire Department International Operational Command Training at the Fire Service College in England, 2007; Fire Officer 1 Training from Hartford Fire Academy, USA in 2004 and the Caribbean Junior Command Staff College Jamaica, 1999.
Commissioner Beckford’s education includes a Bachelor’s of Laws (First Class Honours) and a Bachelor’s of Arts in History (First Class Honours) both from the University of the West Indies-UWI. He is also a graduate of the University of London with a Diploma in Law; and is the holder of several professional certificates.
Commissioner Beckford is a dedicated husband and father. He has being a mentor to a number of persons from all walks of life. He always try to create a balance between work, personal and family life. He is a reader extraordinaire.
His awards and decorations include the National Honours and Awards for Meritorious Service by the government of Jamaica for dedicated service to the Jamaica Fire Brigade; he was awarded the Dr. Bernice Lake Scholarship for the highest academic achievement in Constitutional Law throughout all three UWI Campuses, for the academic year 2014-2015. He is a member of Jamaica Bar Association, having been called to the Bar in 2017.
His hobbies include reading, listening to music, watching sports in particular track and field and cricket.
