Assistant Commissioner Area III

With over 17 years in the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Assistant Commissioner Andrew Russell took the helm as the officer in charge of Area III on June 3, 2019. Assistant Commissioner Russell became interested in the Fire Brigade right out of high school and became a Firefighter in the St. Elizabeth Division. He began his firefighting career at the Junction Fire Station on July 07, 2002. He has diligently worked his way through the ranks to senior positions and was first promoted in July 2008 to the rank of Lance Corporal, two years later in 2010 to the rank of Sergeant and in that same year to the rank of District Officer. In 2012 he was again promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent and in 2016 to the rank of Superintendent.

Throughout Assistant Commissioner Russell’s career in the Fire Brigade, he has remained heavily committed to the organization. Russell serves with distinction in several technical and managerial positions, including General Maintenance Manager (2015-July 2019) Divisional Head, Kingston & St. Andrew Division (July 2018-October 2018) Transport & Fleet Manager (2015) Building Maintenance Manager (2012-2015). He also served on the technical sub-committee of the Board of Directors, and chaired the evaluation committee of the Procurement Unit.
The St. Elizabeth Technical High School graduate and veteran firefighter holds a Master of Science degree (MSc.) in Occupational and Environmental Safety & Health from University of the West Indies Mona, a Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed.) in Industrial Technology with a major in Construction Technology from the University of Technology, Jamaica, and a Diploma in Business English from Manchester Business School England. He is also a graduate of the Fire Service College in England, where he received a Certificate in International Operations Command & Management. Russell also completed other certificate courses including; Computer Science, Mass Casualty Management, Incident Command Management, Fire Safety Inspection and Traffic Crash Investigation.
Assistant Commissioner Russell is married to Samantha for more than 10 years and is the proud father of two wonderful children. They cherish their family time most and love to explore new places.
